How to effectively pray – Part 4

Breaking down and destroying strongholds

Gospel is Foolishness in the Mind of the Lost

Strong‘s Concordance- G3472- Foolishness = mōria (mo-ree’-ah) From G3474; silliness, that is, absurdity: foolishness. G3474 – mōros—mo-ros-Probably from the base of G3466; dull or stupid (as if shut up), that is, heedless,(morally) blockhead, (apparently) absurd: — fool (-ish, ishness).

The Greek word mōria is where we get our English word moron. Webster’s defines moron as “the highest classification of mental deficiency, above imbecile and idiot.

A lost person sees the gospel as absurd, foolish, and even idiotic. Not because they are unintelligent—but because the “strong man (Satan) has blinded their mind and hardened their heart. As we just read in 1 Corinthians 2:14

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness (absurd, silly), Until that stronghold is broken through intercessory prayer they cannot and will not receive the truth.

No Prayer, No Breakthrough

Trying to share Jesus with someone who is not being prayed for is spiritually fruitless–but that does not mean the Evangelist‘s prayer is ineffective, even if they don‘t realize that they are the only one interceding. God honors the sincere prayer of faith, by those dedicated to reaching the lost, whether that prayer was offered in private or in the moment of outreach. But if we attempt to “witness without first binding the strong man through prayer, all we do is enrage the enemy, and he fortifies his grip on their soul. Prayerless evangelism only hardens the resistance.

Souls may be won to a church club, but not surrendered to Christ. So pray much before going out on the street, that the God of heaven, who knows every soul, will soften the heart of each soul that you meet.

The Worker’s Need (Part 7)

Chapter 40—Help in Daily Living (Part 7)

God Will Provide

Many who profess to be Christ’s followers have an anxious, troubled heart because they are afraid to trust themselves with God. They do not make a complete surrender to Him, for they shrink from the consequences that such a surrender may involve. Unless they do make this surrender they cannot find peace.

There are many whose hearts are aching under a load of care because they seek to reach the world’s standard. They have chosen its service, accepted its perplexities, adopted its customs. Thus their character is marred and their life made a weariness. The continual worry is wearing out the life forces. Our Lord desires them to lay aside this yoke of bondage. He invites them to accept His yoke; He says, “My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” Worry is blind and cannot discern the future; but Jesus sees the end from the beginning. In every difficulty He has His way prepared to bring relief. “No good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly.” Matthew 11:30Psalm 84:11

Our heavenly Father has a thousand ways to provide for us of which we know nothing. Those who accept the one principle of making the service of God supreme, will find perplexities vanish and a plain path before their feet.

The faithful discharge of today’s duties is the best preparation for tomorrow’s trials. Do not gather together all tomorrow’s liabilities and cares and add them to the burden of today. “Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” Matthew 6:34

Let us be hopeful and courageous. Despondency in God’s service is sinful and unreasonable. He knows our every necessity. To the omnipotence of the King of kings our covenant-keeping God unites the gentleness and care of the tender shepherd. His power is absolute, and it is the pledge of the sure fulfillment of His promises to all who trust in Him. He has means for the removal of every difficulty, that those who serve Him and respect the means He employs may be sustained. His love is as far above all other love as the heavens are above the earth. He watches over His children with a love that is measureless and everlasting.

In the darkest days, when appearances seem most forbidding, have faith in God. He is working out His will, doing all things well in behalf of His people. The strength of those who love and serve Him will be renewed day by day.

He is able and willing to bestow upon His servants all the help they need. He will give them the wisdom which their varied necessities demand.

Said the tried apostle Paul: “He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9, 10

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for the assurance of Your divine guidance and eternal sufficient care. Please bless us to  completely surrender to You, being assured of Your absolute power to accomplish Your will in and through our weaknesses. Like Abraham, who obeyed, not knowing where he was going but fully trusted in You, please bless us to learn that kind of faith and meekness, patience, humility, and self-forgetfulness. Please bless us to so love and trust You that we would be as clay in the potter’s hands. May we be transformed in character to Your highest goal for us: godliness and godlikeness. Please bless us to realize our most urgent need, repent, and receive divine power to become one with You as You are with Your Son Jesus. We desire that we might have His mind and enjoy His experience of perfect obedience—always pleasing You,—and blessing children and others to do the same. Then may we one day soon stand in Thy glorious presence without fear of death. Thank You, because we ask it in the Awesome and Almighty name of Your Son, Jesus, our Saving King. Amen.

Saved by grace is not a disconnection from obedience

Being saved by grace is not a disconnection from obedience to God, to God’s Ten Commandment law.m, to His Word. God is Love. His Ten Commandment law is based upon God’s Love—a written transcript of His Love, of His character. Keeping (obeying) His Ten Commandments is living His Love.

Deceived souls are blinded by Satan, listening to, obeying his voice, his devils. We are saved by grace through faith. Faith produces works=obedience. God says we are to be hearers and doers of His Word. If we be hearers only we deceive ourselves. Faith and obedience cannot be separated. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. Without faith, the soul has no grace from God.

Being under the law is being in bondage to sin. The soul under the law is a slave to sin, to Satan—and is Satan’s child. When we have surrendered wholly of self, self-will to God and we do surrender to God daily, and we are converted; we have been baptized having died with Christ, the old man is dead in the grave; and we resurrect with Christ a new creature—the old is passed away, all things about us is new, a new creature. We are no longer slaves to sin, Satan. Being taught by God through the Holy Spirit, repenting, being converted prior to baptism—that’s the ideal, that’s the way truly of God. But, in His mercy and long suffering toward us, He labors with us long—for many, including myself, conversion comes long after baptism and we are re-baptized.

Many try to avoid obedience. They call obedience being legalistic, fanatical. They try to take a different route listening to the voices of devils speak lies in their minds. So, they believe them and are blind and deceived. They really believe they need not obey God and just “believe”being deceived having no true understanding of what believing truly involves, is.

Loving God, first one must receive His love to love Him, to love self and love others as one loves self. The unconverted do not know God. The unconverted cannot tell no one what loving God looks like or what it is. The unconverted, the soul in sin, the world cannot define, cannot tell God’s true children, God’s converted children what being a Christian, what being a follower of Christ is or looks like in the life.

It is written:

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.

What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

How to pray effectively – Part 3

Breaking down and destroying strongholds

The Lost Are Satan’s Prisoners of War

In this ―New Age religion of Unconditional Love, the fact that we are in a warzone has been totally discarded by the Christian world. This has given Satan full advantage to take over the souls of men and women professing to be Christians. This is no trivial matter. The lost are not simply misguided—they are captives held in bondage by a fallen prince who once held the highest position of covering cherub at the throne of God in heaven.

“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!…That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners? Isaiah 14:12,17

Satan Has Blinded Their Minds Through Lies and Deception

As we learned from RH Dec. 12, 1899 Satan rules the mind and affections by his spirit.

“But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 2Cor. 4:3–4

Satan does not merely distract; he actively works to blind the minds of the lost so that they cannot comprehend the truth. This blindness is not natural—it is supernatural.

It is spiritual warfare. And the unregenerate man is unable to grasp the things of God without divine intervention.

The mind that is blind to the gospel cannot be reasoned into salvation. A child may grow up hearing sermons andgospel songs, yet never grasp that Christ died personally for them. Without someone interceding, that soul remains imprisoned in spiritual darkness, unable to recognize their sin or their desperate need of the Saviour.

The fountain of Christ’s blood does not cleanse until the heart sees its need. But only the Spirit of God can openblinded eyes. Until that power is loosed through intercession, they remain bound.

Evangelizing without prayer is like urging a blind man to admire the sunset. He has no power to respond, no ability to see. The gospel becomes “foolishness to him.

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 2:14

Unless someone prays earnestly (with Tears) and with Authority for the Spirit of God to remove the demonic veil, the soul remains unreachable. There is no salvation without revelation. And there is no revelation until someone intercedes.

The Ministry of Healing

The Worker’s Need (Part 6)

Chapter 40—Help in Daily Living (Part 6)

Wages

When Christ called His disciples to follow Him, He offered them no flattering prospects in this life. He gave them no promise of gain or worldly honor, nor did they make any stipulation as to what they should receive. To Matthew as he sat at the receipt of custom, the Saviour said, “Follow Me. And he left all, rose up, and followed Him.” Luke 5:27, 28. Matthew did not, before rendering service, wait to demand a certain salary equal to the amount received in his former occupation. Without question or hesitation he followed Jesus. It was enough for him that he was to be with the Saviour, that he might hear His words and unite with Him in His work.

So it was with the disciples previously called. When Jesus bade Peter and his companions follow Him, immediately they left their boats and nets. Some of these disciples had friends dependent on them for support; but when they received the Saviour’s invitation they did not hesitate and inquire, “How shall I live and sustain my family?” They were obedient to the call; and when afterward Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye anything?” they could answer, “Nothing.” Luke 22:35

Today the Saviour calls us, as He called Matthew and John and Peter, to His work. If our hearts are touched by His love, the question of compensation will not be uppermost in our minds. We shall rejoice to be co-workers with Christ, and we shall not fear to trust His care. If we make God our strength we shall have clear perceptions of duty, unselfish aspirations; our life will be actuated by a noble purpose which will raise us above sordid motives.

How to effectively pray – Part 2

Breaking down and destroying strongholds

The Lost Are the Strong Man’s House

Jesus exposed the spiritual reality: Mark 3:27 “ No man can enter into a strong man’ s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. The “Strong man is Satan. His “goods” are the souls of men. Prayer binds him legally, enabling the Gospel to penetrate the heart with power and liberty.

In R.H. Dec 12, 1899 Art. A par. 1 we read: “By a parable Christ seeks to make known the subtlety and deceptive working of Satan, who holds the bodies and minds of men by his power. “When a strong man armed keepeth his palace,” Christ says, “his goods are in peace: but when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armor wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.”

Those who know not God, and Jesus Christ, whom he has sent, are under the rule of the enemy, in bondage to his will. He rules the mind and affections by his spirit. But Christ came into the world to dispute the claims of the enemy, and Satan was made to understand the meaning of the promise given in Eden: “I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”

A stronger than the strong man armed was on the field of battle, one who could dispossess him of his weapons and limit his power. {RH, December 12,1899 par. 1}
