Temperance

Temperance is the fruit of the Spirit of God.

Galatians 5:22-23 KJV
[22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, [23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Ephesians 5:9-10 KJV
[9] (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) [10] Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

If we are a Bereans, weaned from the milk, led of the Holy Spirit; we will dig deep in God’s word, and see that the “fruit” of the Spirit is nine attributes, yet “fruit” is singular. Charity (love—agape) is the key of exercising faith, and faith unto temperance, and unto all righteousness (the remaining fruit of the Spirit).

Jesus was tempted of the Devil (Satan) immediately after He had fasted 40 days and 40 nights. The very first temptation unto Christ was on the point of appetite. Jesus, by faith having fasted, had temperance (self-control) over His appetite; that by faith He could meet Satan’s temptation with the word of God, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God”.

If we have the love of God, then by faith, we overcome appetite by first having received of the Holy Spirit, temperance. We will overcome every sin, turn away from every temptation of Satan victorious.

We are saved by grace through faith. Without faith, it is impossible to please God.

The love of God, the fruit of the Spirit manifested in us. We can only live by faith “The just shall live by faith”, fulfilling all the law: There is no law against charity (love—agape). There is no law against faith. There is no law against temperance: There is no law against goodness, righteousness, truth: Proof of what is acceptable to the Lord.
