The first lie

The first lie in the dialogue between Satan and the woman.

The first lie in earth was not “thou shalt not surely die”. The father of lies, Satan, told the first lie in Heaven, falsely accused God.

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8‬:‭44‬ ‭KJV‬‬

In earth, the first lie spoken was from the lips of the woman to the father of lies—Satan.

Be not deceived.

The first lie is rooted in covetousness. The eye looking to partake of that which the mind desires, the belly craves. The focus/attention is off of Christ, and is put on self.

“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The first lie was uttered by the woman because the mind was taken where the eyes were looking to: The tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and the woman saw the serpent in the tree—she was enchanted by the serpent who the devil, Satan had possessed. So, it was Satan she really yielded to.

Remember, we are told that the serpent was more subtle than all the beast of the field. This is why Satan chose to use the serpent.

We are taught by God through Christ how to meet Satan’s temptation; how to respond when he speaks to us: Christ responded to Satan, “Get thee behind me, Satan…”; “It is written…” (Read Matthew 16:23 KJV, and Matthew 4:4 KJV)

We are taught by God in His word that too much talk opens the door to sin. As much as possible, answer yes or no.

“But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭37‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The woman taking her focus, taking her attention off of God, and wondering away from her husband was her first mistake. Her second mistake was looking at the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, going to the tree that God told her not to eat from. Why go to it and cause the thoughts to think about something God has said to not partake of ? The woman opened the door to Satan.

When the woman took those steps away from the man, arriving at the tree, seeing the serpent; Satan knew all he had to do now was to get her in a conversation with him. And he used the serpent.

We must be very careful to not go where God is not leading; or where God has not given permission for us to go; not to go where He has not paved the way for our feet to walk. The woman ventured away from her husband’s side; the man, her husband, did not keep her close, and protect her.

Satan got the woman talking to him!

Satan knew that she had fully let him in her mind when she spoke the first lie (the truth mingled in with one lie):

“And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The woman gave herself over to dialogue with the serpent, a beast that could not talk—but it was Satan speaking through it. This was the door opened wide to Satan to fully enter into her mind. This was all that Satan needed. Now he was in. Her footsteps toward the tree proved to Satan he could enter her mind. So it is, he moved in aggressively and spoke to the woman through the subtle serpent.

Satan, then spoke the second lie:

“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Satan continued on speaking lies in her hearing:

“for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Satan planted the seed of doubt about God in her subconscious. That seed was watered as she continued listening to his lies.

The woman already was wise, she and the man had the mind of Christ. They were clothed with God’s glory, His character, His righteousness. But the woman was deceived believing a lie: she ate of the tree God told them not to eat of.

Believing is not just having intellectual knowledge; but, it is also an action verb: We do what we believe. Our believing on Christ is both hearing and doing His word. This deception that the woman believed also revealed the fact that her faith, the faith she was given by God, was no longer exercised in God but in self and the lie which she entertained.

Study out this deception that the woman believed—she heard and so she did:

“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Study out:

“And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.”
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬ ‭KJV

The man and the woman, as we are, were created with freedom of choice. They could by faith continue to choose to obey God (love God), live on in harmony with God; or, at anytime they could choose to disobey God (hate God), separate from God.

The woman being deceived, therefore in transgression, is the result of her freewill choice to wonder away from her husband, going to the tree, seeing the subtle serpent which was possessed by Satan. We are to be very careful to not to put our feet where Satan is—if God has not ordained us to go. We can do nothing without God. We are no match for Satan without God.

Let this experience, noted for us to take heed, be ever a constant reminder to us to by faith seek God for His Holy Spirit. Let us with all our getting, to get understanding and wisdom as we read, as we study; that we apply the word of God in our daily lives. Let us by faith, the power of God choose not to put our attention on that which is not of God, to not yield to Satan and follow after him, to not get into conversation with him; but, by faith choose to die daily, take up our cross, and fellow Jesus.

If the Holy Spirit is dwelling in us, we are one with God: we submit ourselves to God. We have instant, immediate help—if we choose to call on God, submit to God. The Holy Spirit will bring to our remembrance (if God will have us to speak) “It is written”. We will only meet Satan’s temptation with rebuke in Christ name, or with the word of God as did Christ. Christ chose by faith and the Power of God to live by every word that procedeth out of the mouth of God.

We shall overcome as Christ overcame.

  1. Thank you for this article which opened my eyes on something I did not ever see about the first lie that was told, definitely gave me insight on how the enemy is very cunning and deceiving and it helps me to know that I should never be in a conversation with the devil. This article also showed me if I say I love God why am I not obeying his commands, why do I allow my flesh to rise up and then I fall into sin, because I took my eyes off of Jesus. So if we love God we must learn to trust him first and obey his Commandments and keep our eyes on Jesus Christ as our focal point and then will we be able to overcome all things through Christ Jesus who strengthen us.

    1. My Daughter…I like the way you spoke on the first “LIE”…Your words definitely made it loud and clear what happened on the day in the Garden of Eden, how Satan knew just how to work on Eve…Today, we must stay in prayer, and continue to seek GOD’S words, by doing so will help us to recognize when Satan is present in trying to make us turn away from GOD…
